LinkGuard - Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-08-26
The short version
LinkGuard scans links on the page you are viewing and flags dangerous destinations. It can contribute anonymized malicious link data to a shared database so everyone benefits. Your browsing history is never collected.
What LinkGuard does
LinkGuard analyzes links on the current page to detect phishing URLs, redirect chains, URL shortener abuse, and known malicious destinations. It warns you before you click, not after.
Data collection
LinkGuard does not collect your name, email, browsing history, or any personally identifiable information. There is no account and no registration.
When you opt in to crowdsourced protection, LinkGuard contributes anonymized malicious link indicators to a shared database. This includes flagged destination domains and detected attack patterns. It never includes the page you are browsing, your click behavior, or anything tied to you personally.
Network activity
LinkGuard makes network requests in two cases:
- Threat intelligence lookups: checks extracted link destinations against known malicious domain databases
- Crowdsourced contributions (opt-in): sends anonymized malicious link indicators to the Excalion API so newly discovered threats can be flagged for all users
No browsing history, full page URLs, or personal data is transmitted.
Permissions
- activeTab: to scan links on the page you are currently viewing
- storage: to save your preferences and cached scan results locally
Where your data lives
Your preferences and cached link analysis results are stored locally in chrome.storage.local. This data never leaves your device. If you uninstall the extension, this data is deleted automatically by Chrome.
Third-party services
LinkGuard queries threat intelligence databases for domain reputation checks. Only destination domains extracted from links are sent, never the page you are visiting or any personal data.
Cookies and tracking
LinkGuard does not use cookies and does not track you in any way.
Supported browsers
LinkGuard works on Chrome, Edge, and Brave. This privacy policy applies equally to all supported browsers.
Changes to this policy
Any changes will be reflected in extension updates. The date at the top of this page will be updated accordingly.
